Advancing Near-Term Solutions for South Holgate St.

SIA brought together a high-impact coalition of SODO stakeholders, including the Port of Seattle, Northwest Seaport Alliance, Seattle Mariners, Washington State Ballpark Public Facilities District, Amtrak, BNSF Railway, and the SODO BIA, to drive coordinated action on the South Holgate Street corridor.

By aligning leaders across freight, rail, maritime, and stadium operations, SIA created a unified platform to address one of the most complex and critical industrial corridors in the region.

Through this leadership, SIA elevated urgent safety and operational challenges affecting freight mobility, pedestrian access, and rail activity, transforming individual concerns into a clear, collective industry voice.

Building on this momentum, SIA spearheaded the development and submission of a joint letter to the Seattle Department of Transportation, positioning the coalition as a solutions-oriented partner advancing near-term improvements alongside long-range planning efforts.

Collectively, this group put forward strategic recommendations including rail crossing safety upgrades, enhanced pedestrian infrastructure, and flexible operational strategies to better manage competing demands on the corridor.

This work not only accelerated alignment among key stakeholders but also demonstrated SIA’s ability to build consensus across diverse and sometimes competing interests, delivering practical, shared solutions that support industrial operations while accommodating the needs of adjacent users in one of Seattle’s most vital East-West corridors.
